AMMAN — The Jordan Valley Authority (JVA) on Saturday launched a national afforestation and volunteer initiative in cooperation with the Crown Prince Foundation’s Nahno Platform and the Ministry of Agriculture.

The initiative marks the 80th anniversary of the Kingdom’s Independence Day, the Accession to the Throne Day, Army Day and the anniversary of the Great Arab Revolt, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

JVA Secretary-General Hisham Haisa said that the initiative reflects the Royal vision of empowering young people and enhancing their contribution to national development, noting that cooperation among national institutions represents a “model” of integrated action in serving local communities, preserving natural resources and advancing sustainable development.

Haisa added that commemorating these national occasions serves as an opportunity to reflect on Jordan’s achievements over the years, reaffirm loyalty and belonging to the homeland and the Hashemite leadership, and draw inspiration from the values of work and dedication that have shaped the Kingdom’s modern renaissance.

Secretary-General of the Agriculture Ministry Mohammed Hiari stressed the importance of national initiatives that combine environmental and volunteer dimensions.

He noted that the ministry, in cooperation with various institutions, is implementing programmes aimed at expanding green spaces and raising environmental awareness among different segments of society, particularly young people, who are key partners in achieving sustainable development goals and protecting natural resources.

The activities included awareness and volunteer programmes focusing on the importance of protecting the environment and promoting social responsibility, as well as youth activities aimed at reinforcing the values of teamwork and community service.

The event also included field activities organised by the Jordanian Riders Group in cooperation with the Jordanian Traffic Institute to promote road safety awareness and public discipline.

Participants reiterated their commitment to contributing to the Kingdom’s development and preserving its achievements, expressing pride in the national occasions.

The initiative concluded with a tree-planting campaign involving attendees, volunteers and young people to expand green cover, promote environmental awareness and support national sustainability efforts.
