AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi on Sunday discussed with Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty bilateral ties and ongoing coordination on regional issues of mutual concern.

 

The two ministers discussed preparations for the 166th regular session of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level, scheduled for Monday at the organisation's headquarters in Cairo, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

 

They also discussed the groundwork for the meeting of the Arab Ministerial Committee mandated with international action to confront illegal Israeli measures in occupied Jerusalem.

 

Safadi and Abdelatty reaffirmed the “deep-rooted” and strategic nature of Jordan-Egypt relations, stressing their keenness to further expand cooperation across various fields.

 

They highlighted the importance of advancing the trilateral cooperation framework involving Jordan, Egypt and Iraq, emphasising the need to translate the potential of the three nations into tangible projects to foster economic integration and serve common interests.

 

Turning to the Palestinian cause, the ministers discussed efforts to fully implement all provisions of US President Donald Trump’s plan to stabilise Gaza, ensure the delivery of humanitarian assistance, and create the necessary conditions for the Palestinian Authority to resume its responsibilities.

 

They also discussed the dangerous developments in the occupied West Bank, reiterating their absolute rejection of annexation policies, settlement expansion and settler terrorism.

 

The two top diplomats stressed the importance of preserving the historic and legal status quo of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, with Abdelatty reaffirming Egypt’s full support for the historic Hashemite Custodianship over these sanctuaries.

 

On broader regional dynamics, both foreign ministers underscored the need for de-escalation, prioritising political and diplomatic solutions, and respecting state sovereignty and territorial integrity.

 

They renewed their condemnation of Iranian attacks targeting the Kingdom and other Arab nations, with Abdelatty expressing Egypt's total solidarity with Jordan in confronting such aggressions.
