AMMAN — The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) Committee on Thursday held its 11th ordinary session, chaired by its head, Ahmad Malkawi, who took the legal oath during the meeting.

 

Speaking during the session, Malkawi stressed that the municipality is actively implementing plans and projects aimed at upgrading public services and streamlining transaction procedures for citizens, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

 

He reaffirmed the commitment of both the committee and GAM's executive body to build on previous achievements and complete ongoing development projects.

 

Emphasising the importance of teamwork, Malkawi noted that the committee will press ahead with GAM’s strategic plans, which encompass vital projects aligned with local development priorities and citizens' aspirations.

 

During the session, Rayya Qadi was also sworn in as a new member of the GAM Committee.

 

On the regulatory front, the committee approved draft instructions prohibiting the sale and trading of horticultural produce outside the Amman Central Market for Vegetables and Fruits and GAM's official online platform.

 

It also approved the terms and conditions for exempting perishable horticultural items or produce intended for food processing from central market trading rules.

 

The committee agreed to host the launch of the third edition of the Arab City Leaders Academy.

 

Gathering mayors, governors and senior local officials from across the Arab region, the initiative aims to build local leadership capacities and promote expertise sharing in urban governance, localising Sustainable Development Goals, climate action and digital transformation.

 

The committee also approved GAM’s hosting of the Arab Smart Cities Forum, covering its headquarters, presidency, and regulatory and financial frameworks to ensure the sustained operations of the institution.
