AMMAN — The Public Security Directorate (PSD) on Sunday announced the renewed suspension of passenger movement through the King Hussein Bridge from the other side, following a brief reopening earlier in the day.

 

The PSD urged travelers to monitor official media channels for updates on the reopening of the crossing. Cargo transport remains suspended until further notice.

 

The crossing, also known as the Karameh Bridge, was shut down by Israeli authorities following a shooting incident on the opposite side of the border on Thursday. Israeli media reported that two Israelis were killed and two others critically wounded in a suspected shooting near the bridge.

 

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said that it has launched an official investigation into the incident, which it condemned as a “serious violation of international law and a direct threat to the Kingdom’s humanitarian efforts in Gaza”.

 

The ministry identified the alleged assailant as Abdul-Muttalib Al Qaisi, a 56-year-old Jordanian, who had been working as a humanitarian aid truck driver for the past three months.

 

The ministry also reiterated Jordan’s “firm rejection of violent and unlawful acts” that endanger the Kingdom’s interests, particularly its central role in facilitating the delivery of aid to the besieged Gaza Strip. It also stressed the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and called on the international community to pursue an effective diplomatic initiative toward a two-state solution, warning of the broader regional consequences of continued escalation.
