Jordan braces for intense heat wave

Roya News

After several nights of pleasant and cool weather, Jordan is preparing for a significant shift as an expected heat wave is forecast to extend into the evening hours. According to ArabiaWeather, nights will become relatively hot and humid across most of the kingdom starting this weekend.

Forecasts predict that minimum temperatures in some major cities could remain above 26 to 28 degrees Celsius (79-82 F), categorizing the weather as "relatively hot" even after sunrise, with temperatures being higher in the early hours of the night.

The rising nighttime temperatures will be accompanied by high humidity levels exceeding 60%. This, combined with a noticeable drop in wind speed, is expected to make conditions feel stifling and uncomfortable, especially due to increased thermal pressure.

The "urban heat island" effect will exacerbate the heat in urban areas, where concrete and asphalt surfaces retain heat from the day and release it gradually, causing city temperatures to be 3 to 7 degrees Celsius (5-13 F) higher than in surrounding rural areas.

ArabiaWeather advises citizens not to underestimate these conditions, particularly vulnerable groups. They recommend ensuring good ventilation and drinking sufficient amounts of water, even at night, to avoid complications from the heat wave.
