AMMAN — Jordan on Wednesday participated in the 17th Arab Conference of Heads of Security Media Agencies, which commenced at the General Secretariat of the Arab Interior Ministers Council (AIMC) in Tunis.

Director of the Media and Community Police Department at the Public Security Directorate (PSD) Brig. Gen. Amer Sartawi represented the Kingdom at the meeting, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Addressing the gathering, AIMC Secretary-General Mohammad Bin Ali Koman warned that rapid advancements in modern technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), present a pressing challenge for law enforcement worldwide.

He highlighted the potential misuse of AI in committing crimes, forging documents, cloning voices, and fabricating digital media.

The secretary-general noted that despite these risks, AI can also be leveraged to bolster public safety and enhance awareness campaigns.

He stressed the importance of utilising digital platforms to connect with younger generations, asserting that modern outreach efforts must adapt to these channels to achieve any meaningful impact.

Koman also voiced the council's firm condemnation of Iran's ongoing aggression against several Arab nations, describing it as a flagrant violation of international charters and a total disregard for the principles of good neighbourliness.

The participants are scheduled to discuss several issues, including mechanisms for digital outreach to youth, successful media strategies in countering terrorism, and various Arab experiences in employing communication to prevent crime and integrate modern technological tools.
