CDD contain blaze at Jabal Al Hussein Market

The Jordan Times

AMMAN — The Civil Defence Department (CDD) contained a fire that broke out early Sunday in a marketplace in the Jabal Al Hussein area of the capital.

The blaze engulfed large sections of commercial stalls selling vegetables, fruits, clothing, groceries, and various goods, covering an estimated area of 5,000 square metres, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Director of Central Amman Civil Defence Mohammad Khreisat said the fire was brought under control thanks to the swift response and high level of preparedness of CDD personnel.

He also credited effective coordination and immediate support from units in East and West Amman, along with officers from the Central Amman Police and the Capital Gendarmerie Department.

Khreisat noted that the operations room received the first report of the fire at 1:10a.m.

Specialised teams were dispatched immediately, facing significant challenges due to the nature of the burning materials, such as clothing and cleaning products, and the dense storage of goods inside warehouses.

Heavy machinery was required to remove debris and gain access to hidden fire pockets. Despite these obstacles, the teams were able to fully contain the blaze.

Khreisat said that the fire was completely under control, although cooling operations are ongoing to prevent any possible flare-ups. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the incident.
