ACT posts ‘record’ operational performance, handles over million containers in 2025

AMMAN — Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT) concluded 2025 with record operational performance and expanded regional positioning, driven by new partnerships, capacity investments and infrastructure upgrades.
In January alone, ACT handled 56 vessels and 81,474 TEUs, setting a performance benchmark for the terminal. Throughput records were repeatedly broken throughout the year, reaching 92,348 TEUs in May, 94,541 TEUs in September and 96,060 TEUs in December. ACT also surpassed one million TEUs for the first time in a single calendar year, according to a company statement
The terminal’s capacity was also boosted by the arrival of a new $13 million Ship-to-Shore gantry crane capable of serving 400-metre vessels and adding 180,000 TEUs in annual throughput. The demolition of an older crane structure also increased operational space and improved yard configuration.
Despite lower average volumes per vessel, ACT reported productivity gains and reduced stay times, achieving a 23 per cent reduction in vessel port time in November and maintaining truck gate turnaround at under 32 minutes. Customer feedback placed ACT as “best in class” within APM Terminals’ network, according to the company, the statement read.
The momentum also followed the launch of the Gemini Cooperation, a global shipping network formed by Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd, which boosted Jordan’s connectivity to international markets and reinforced Aqaba’s role in maritime trade.
ACT also hosted the 21st Transport Middle East Exhibition and Conference in April, bringing over 300 industry leaders to Aqaba and underscoring the terminal’s regional profile.
Beyond operations, the ACT continued CSR initiatives in health, education and environmental stewardship, including support to the King Hussein Cancer Centre, Tkiyet Um Ali, and Ahl Al Khair. Its School Transformation and Education Programme (STEP) expanded work with public schools, while environmental campaigns included seabed and beach cleanups during the annual Go Green Week.
The company said these efforts align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Economic Modernisation Vision, positioning the terminal as both a logistics gateway and contributor to sustainable development.
