AMMAN — The Southern Military Zone on Friday thwarted a drug smuggling attempt involving a drone within its area of responsibility on its western frontier.
A military source from the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces – Arab Army (JAF) said that border guard forces in the Southern Military Zone, in coordination with military security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department, foiled an attempt to smuggle narcotics across the border using an aerial vehicle.
The source said that the drone was tracked, subsequently intercepted, and downed within Jordanian territory after the rules of engagement were applied. The seized materials were handed over to the relevant authorities, the statement read, according to a JAF statement.
Also on Friday, the Northern Military Zone foiled an infiltration attempt along its northern front, within its designated area of responsibility, according to a separate army statement.
A suspect attempting to cross the border illegally was apprehended after border security forces applied the rules of engagement. The individual was referred to the relevant authorities for legal action.
The source stressed that JAF remains committed to utilising its various capabilities and resources to prevent all forms of infiltration and smuggling, ensuring the security and stability of the Kingdom.
