AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi on Sunday met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, on the sidelines of His Majesty King Abdullah’s state visit to China.

 

Safadi and Wang held expanded talks that focused on ways to enhance Amman-Beijing relations on various fields.

 

The two top diplomats also discussed regional and international issues of mutual interest, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

 

During the meeting, Safadi and Wang Yi stressed the importance of the King’s visit and his talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday in opening broader prospects for cooperation between the two countries and advancing their mutual interests.

 

They also highlighted the importance of the in-depth talks held during the King’s state visit in strengthening economic, trade, investment and tourism cooperation, as well as the signing of a number of agreements that would broaden areas of cooperation and build on the strategic partnership established between Jordan and China in 2015.

 

Wang Yi said that China highly values its relations with Jordan, describing the King’s visit as an important milestone that reflects the depth of bilateral ties and the two countries’ shared commitment to developing them.

 

Safadi underlined His Majesty’s keenness on strengthening cooperation with China, stressing the importance of the King’s meeting with President Xi on Monday towards formulating practical steps to expand cooperation across various fields.

 

The two ministers also discussed regional developments and stressed the importance of intensified work to enhance security and stability in the Middle East.

 

Safadi commended China’s support for a just peace based on the two-state solution and reaffirmed Jordan’s unwavering commitment to the One-China policy.

 

Wang Yi underscored the key role played by King Abdullah in promoting security and stability in the region.
