AMMAN —The Foreign Ministry condemned on Sunday the storming of the Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif by Israeli extremists, reportedly under the protection of occupation forces.

In a statement, the ministry described the incident as a “clear violation of international law, a condemned escalation, and an unacceptable provocation that must stop immediately.”

Spokesperson Fouad Majali reiterated Jordan’s firm rejection of the ongoing incursions, saying the violations threaten the historical and legal status of the holy site and represent attempts to impose temporal and spatial divisions within it.

Majali emphasised that Israel has no sovereignty over occupied East Jerusalem or its Islamic and Christian holy sites. He also warned of the consequences of continued violations, calling on the international community to take decisive action to compel Israel, as the occupying power, to halt all practices that undermine the sanctity of Jerusalem’s holy sites and to stop unilateral measures in the occupied West Bank.

He underscored that the entire 144-dunum Al Aqsa Mosque compound remains a sacred place of worship for Muslims. Majali further noted that the Jerusalem Awqaf Department, operating under Jordan’s Awqaf Ministry, is the sole legal authority responsible for managing all affairs of the compound and regulating access.
