Moody’s projects Jordan’s economic growth to reach 2.7% in 2026

AMMAN — Jordan’s real gross domestic product (GDP) is projected to grow by 2.7 per cent in 2026 and accelerate to 3 per cent over the remainder of the decade, supported by major infrastructure projects and expanding regional trade, according to Moody’s Ratings.

The agency said that Jordan had weathered the economic spillovers of the regional conflict relatively well, benefiting from a diversified economy and the rerouting of trade through the Port of Aqaba, Al Mamlaka reported.

Tourism revenues remained stable during the first seven months of 2026, as strong arrivals from Gulf countries and other regional markets offset declines in visitors from Europe and the United States.

Moody’s expects higher energy costs stemming from regional instability to slow fiscal consolidation. Government debt is projected to decline gradually from 83.6 per cent of GDP in 2025 to nearly 81 per cent by the end of 2027.

The agency cited Jordan’s strong institutional framework, continued international support and credible peg of the dinar to the US dollar as factors supporting the country’s credit profile. The currency peg helps protect balance sheets from exchange-rate volatility.

However, elevated public debt, structural constraints on economic growth, high unemployment and geopolitical risks continue to weigh on the outlook.

Moody’s maintained a stable outlook, balancing these risks against ongoing broad-based reforms that could attract greater foreign investment and support stronger medium-term growth.
