AMMAN — The Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) announced on Sunday the arrest of 55 suspects in 119 cases related to Crystal meth trafficking and dealing in various parts of the Kingdom, according to official sources.

 

The arrests came during the eighth week of a “strict” security campaign and an awareness campaign that was initiated by AND in collaboration with the Media and Community Policing Directorate to combat the use of Crystal meth in Jordanian society.

 

The eighth-week campaign resulted in the arrest of 39 suspects in cases related to trafficking, smuggling, promotion, and the use of Crystal meth,” Police Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Amer Sartawi said.

 

Meanwhile, 135 suspects were arrested for using the deadly substance, Sartawi told The Jordan Times.

 

The total amount of seized Crystal meth with the suspects was 0.29 kilogrammes, according to the police official.

 

The campaigns aimed at warning the public about the use of this deadly substance and pursuing individuals who deal with the illicit substance.

 

Crystal meth is the common name for crystal methamphetamine, a strong and highly addictive drug that affects the central nervous system, according to WebMD.

 

Sartawi recently said that Crystal meth “is one of the most dangerous chemical substances that affects people's mental and physical health”.

 

“This dangerous substance causes rapid addiction, severe disturbances in perception and behaviour, and affects bodily functions, especially causing damage to the brain and lungs, in addition to aggression, loss of control and perception, and causing many heinous crimes,” Sartawi added.

 

He stressed that the “campaign is ongoing until it reaches its goals of spreading awareness and pursuing individuals who deal with this deadly substance”.

 

All the detained suspects were referred to the State Security Prosecutor for further questioning and indictment, he added.

 

Citizens are urged to report any person who deals with Crystal meth by contacting 911, according to a statement by the Public Security Directorate (PSD).

 

All information will be treated with utmost discretion, seriousness, firmness, verification, and confidentiality, the Public Security Directorate (PSD) statement added.

 

According to PSD 2025 statistics, there were 22,031 drug crimes in the Kingdom.

 

The number of drug and possession cases was 15,720, while the number of drug trafficking cases was 6,311, according to the PSD statistics.
