AMMAN — Prime Minister Jafar Hassan on Wednesday checked on plans by the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) to advance digital transformation and enhance electronic services.
The prime minister underlined the need to accelerate the implementation of a comprehensive system to modernise municipal e-services, stressing that improvements should translate into better service delivery and faster responses to citizens’ feedback, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Amman Mayor Yousef Shawarbeh outlined ongoing administrative reform plans aimed at boosting institutional efficiency and strengthening leadership and staff capabilities.
He also said that the municipality’s human resources development system is 78 per cent complete, adding that it is designed to streamline employee services, improve performance evaluation across departments and teams, and enhance responsiveness to public input.
He also highlighted the launch of a “Future Leaders” programme to develop staff competencies and prepare them for leadership and executive roles within the municipality, according to Petra.
The Premier’s meeting with GAM officials also addressed the municipality’s executive plan to issue Islamic bonds (sukuk).
A committee comprising representatives from the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank of Jordan, and the municipality has been tasked with preparing the issuance framework.
Shawarbeh said that the first tranche, valued at JD400 million, is expected to be launched by the end of June, with preparations underway for subsequent tranches, aimed at restructuring debt, lowering borrowing costs, and transforming liabilities into long-term investment opportunities to support service and development projects.
