AMMAN — Secretary-General of the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO) Hussein Shibli says agency is preparing to dispatch 30 to 35 humanitarian aid trucks to the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, carrying essential food supplies.
Speaking to Al Mamlaka TV on Monday, Shibli said the situation in Gaza has deteriorated significantly, describing current conditions as unprecedented since October 7, 2023.
He accused Israeli authorities of imposing a “total” blockade on the tiny coastal enclave, leading to a “systematic starvation and dehydration” of the population.
“There is a clear and deliberate attempt to starve and dehydrate Gaza’s residents,” he said, adding, “This has resulted in widespread despair and a slow, collective death due to hunger.”
Shibli described the conditions in Gaza as “extremely dire” and emphasised that Jordan is making efforts on all fronts, be they diplomatic or humanitarian, to respond to the crisis.
He noted that Jordan is working through direct relief programmes and in coordination with organisations operating across the border.
The secretary-general also criticised the current aid delivery process as disorganised and called for immediate action to open border crossings and allow sufficient quantities of humanitarian aid into Gaza. “The chaos in aid distribution is pushing people to fight over a loaf of bread or a meal.”
