Jordan-Syria anti-narcotic departments’ cooperation foils seven smuggling attempts
AMMAN — The Jordanian and Syrian anti-narcotics departments on Sunday highlighted, in a joint statement, the results of their coordinated efforts to combat drug trafficking and smuggling.
The statement emphasised that, under the framework of bilateral security cooperation and with a shared commitment to protecting communities from the dangers of narcotics, the two agencies maintained close field cooperation and intelligence sharing, achieving significant results in recent months.
Specialised teams successfully thwarted seven smuggling attempts across the shared border, seizing nearly one million narcotic pills destined for illegal distribution in the region, the statement said.
The cooperation also led to the dismantling of organised criminal networks involved in regional drug trafficking, which posed a direct threat to the security of both countries and neighbouring states. Authorities confirmed the arrest of several individuals involved in these operations, preventing their attempts to manufacture, smuggle, and distribute narcotics.
The departments also noted that these achievements exemplify practical, constructive bilateral cooperation and underscore the effectiveness of joint management in addressing security challenges. They also reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying efforts against cross-border smuggling and ensuring the protection of communities and future generations from the scourge of drugs.
Both sides stressed that combating narcotics is not only a security imperative but also a humanitarian, social, and ethical responsibility. They highlighted the importance of regional and international cooperation and renewed their determination to continue fighting this threat and safeguarding their nations and people from its dangers.
