A powerful explosion occurred in southern Lebanon during an operation to remove rockets from a military facility, killing at least six Lebanese army soldiers and injuring others, Roya correspondent reported.

The incident happened as soldiers were dismantling unexploded munitions left from the recent "Israeli" aggression in the area between Majdel Zoun and Wadi Zabqin in the Sour district.

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam expressed his deep sorrow in a statement, saying, “With great pain, Lebanon mourns the brave sons of our army who fell as martyrs while fulfilling their national duty.” He affirmed that the army will remain “the safety valve, the fortress of sovereignty, and protector of national unity.”

President Joseph Aoun called Army Commander General Rudolf Heikal to receive a full briefing on the tragic incident. He expressed his profound grief over the loss, extending condolences to the families and the military institution, and wished a speedy recovery for the wounded.

“The nation today loses some of its finest sons who sacrificed their lives defending Lebanon’s land and sovereignty,” Aoun said. “These pure martyrs wrote with their noble blood the finest meanings of sacrifice and devotion, confirming that the Lebanese army remains the country’s protective shield and faithful guardian of its borders.”

He added, “I affirm that their martyrdom is not the end but a beacon of hope to light the way for future generations and remind them that the freedom of the homeland is only preserved through great sacrifices.”
