AMMAN — Al Hayat Centre for Civil Society Development (Rased) on Saturday conducted mock elections in Amman with the aim of increasing public awareness about the 19th parliamentary elections.
Supported by the EU and the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development, the mock elections targeted 700 young people who participated as candidates and voters, in accordance with the new executive instructions introduced by the Independent Election Commission to comply with the prevailing health conditions related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Highlighting the importance of the move in raising youth awareness about the Election Law, Minister of Parliamentary and Political Affairs Musa Maaytah called on young people to enhance participation in the electoral process, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The EU "strongly" supports improving the democratic institutions in Jordan and looks forward to help in promoting Jordanians’ participation in political and public life, said EU Ambassador Maria Hadjitheodosiou.
