AMMAN — Jordan on Thursday strongly condemned Israel’s bombing of the Latin Monastery Church in Gaza, which resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries, calling the attack a "blatant" violation of international law, particularly the 1949 Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Sufian Qudah said that Israel’s targeting of the church reflects the extremist policies of the Israeli government and its continued aggression against the Palestinian people, including the systematic targeting of civilians in the Gaza Strip.
Qudah also stressed that Israel, as the occupying power, must fulfil its obligations under international law, particularly international humanitarian law, and immediately cease attacks on civilian infrastructure and places of worship in Gaza, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
He also urged the international community to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities by taking effective and immediate measures to halt the Israeli aggression.
The official also stressed the need to ensure the rapid and adequate delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, which is facing an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe resulting from the ongoing assault.
