AMMAN — Prime Minister Jafar Hassan on Wednesday extended Christmas and New Year greetings to Jordan’s Christian community during a visit to the Latin Patriarchal Vicariate of Jordan, where he met with church leaders and representatives.
In his address, Hassan commended the enduring values of solidarity, brotherhood, and national unity in Jordan, describing the Kingdom as a long-standing model of coexistence and social cohesion in the region, according to a Prime Ministry statement.
He emphasised that Jordanians, both Muslims and Christians, stand together in faith and mutual respect, celebrating holidays while upholding the country’s strength, resilience, and prosperity.
Hassan also reaffirmed Jordan’s solidarity with Palestinian Christians in Gaza and across the region, highlighting the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting them alongside their Muslim compatriots and safeguarding Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
Speaking on behalf of Jordan’s churches, Archbishop Iyad Twal said the celebrations reflect the country’s unity and mutual respect, underlining the Christian community’s contribution to national development.
He highlighted the Patriarchate’s humanitarian and medical work, including the treatment of children from Gaza under the King’s initiative, and its leadership of the country’s largest non-profit education network, which spans 62 schools and kindergartens and the American University of Madaba, educating over 20,000 students nationwide.
The prime minister was accompanied by Ministers of State for Economic Affairs Muhannad Shehadeh, Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Mohammad Khalayleh, Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Abdul Munim Oudat, Minister of Culture Mustafa Rawashdeh, Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Sami Smeirat, and Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Imad Hijazin.
