The INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) - Jordan apprehended Jordanian businessman Akram Shaheen in Lebanon and extradited him to Jordan.

Shaheen is wanted by the Jordanian courts on financial corruption charges, and is accused by the Iraqi authorities of allegedly financing terrorism.

He was arrested in Lebanon after Jordan sent an InterPol NCB team to extradite him back to Jordan through official measures from the Lebanese authorities.

Shaheen arrived at Amman airport on Thursday and will be facing trial for the charges.

The suspect is brother of high-profile business tycoon Khalid Shaheen, who was convicted and sentenced to a 3-year prison term in 2010 by the State Security Court on corruption charges related to the Jordan Petroleum Refinery Co.'s expansion project, and other charges related to the Disi Water Conveyance project, among others.

The Shaheen brothers enjoyed over two decades of conducting business on large government and private enterprise contracts in Jordan and abroad.
