Jordan’s external sector showed strong export performance in the first two months of 2025, with national export revenues rising 8.1 percent year-over-year (YoY) to JOD 1.309 billion, up from JOD 1.211 billion in the same period of 2024, according to the Department of Statistics.

Total exports, including re-exports, grew by 9.1 percent to JOD 1.449 billion. Re-exports alone rose sharply by 19.7 percent to JOD 140 million. Imports also increased, climbing 7.9 percent YoY to JOD 3.065 billion.

These trends resulted in a 6.9 percent widening of the trade deficit over the January–February period, reaching JOD 1.616 billion compared to JOD 1.512 billion a year earlier. The export-to-import coverage ratio remained steady at 47 percent.

However, February’s standalone figures revealed a markedly more favorable trade picture. Total exports reached JOD 747 million, with national exports at JOD 675 million and re-exports at JOD 72 million. Meanwhile, imports declined 5.3 percent YoY to JOD 1.442 billion.

This combination of surging exports (total +18.0 percent, national +17.8 percent, re-exports +20.0 percent) and falling imports led to a significant 21.8 percent YoY reduction in the monthly trade deficit, which narrowed to JOD 695 million.

The export-to-import coverage ratio in February improved to 52 percent, up from 42 percent a year earlier — a 10-point gain that signals a notably improved trade position for the month.
