The Jordan Times

Students from the German Jordanian University (GJU) who are leaving for Germany this semester were introduced this week to the German culture and lifestyle. Organised by the university’s international office, several presentations focused on academic work, intercultural communications, general information, and internship information by returnees in order to share their experiences and answer student questions and inquiries. Natheer Abu Obeid, president of the GJU, emphasised the importance of the exchange year as it offers students an opportunity to advance their knowledge. Dorothea Jecht, director of the international office at GJU, said that the aim of orientation was to offer advice and support to prepare students for Germany and to help them benefit from their colleagues experiences, especially since many of them have not visited Germany in the past.  Ines Gessner, deputy head of mission at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, spoke about her own experience of an exchange year, to encourage students to learn a lot from the culture and explore the new environment. About 200 GJU students are leaving for Germany for the exchange semester to 34 partner universities.
