AMMAN — Minister of Labour Khalid Bakkar on Thursday underlined the government's commitment to establishing a "genuine" partnership with the private sector, noting its inclusion in the boards of directors of the Vocational Training Corporation (VTC) and various financing funds.

During a meeting with industrialists in the Aqaba Governorate, Bakkar highlighted that the private sector's involvement stems from its technical expertise and understanding of the skills required by the current labour market, according to Al Mamlaka TV.

He noted that private sector representatives were actively consulted during the drafting of legislation aimed at regulating the labour market.

The minister stressed that shifting global and domestic market trends necessitate the empowerment of Jordanians with modern skill sets.

He added that properly qualified human capital is essential, as skilled individuals secure employment opportunities far more rapidly than those without technical competencies.

The industrial sector, with its various sub-sectors, serves as a primary pillar for the national economy, Bakkar said.

He reaffirmed that the government is cognisant of the challenges facing the sector and maintains constant dialogue with private entities to address issues such as labour turnover and the enhancement of vocational training outcomes through constructive cooperation.

For his part, Chief Commissioner of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) Shadi Majali said, that the authority coordinates with all executive bodies to maintain the continuity of trade, industry, and tourism sectors.

Majali emphasised ASEZA's dedication to empowering the private sector through "sustained" cooperation between official authorities and industry representatives, describing the industrial sector as a fundamental cornerstone of the national economy.

Governor of Aqaba Ayman Awayisheh, noted that ongoing coordination between executive and regulatory bodies in the governorate continues to facilitate operations for the private sector.

At the onset of the meeting, Chairman of the Amman and Jordan Chambers of Industry Fathi Jaghbir outlined the primary challenges facing industrialists in Aqaba.

He called for a thorough review of the sector's demands, noting that Aqaba-based factories enjoy a "strategic" export advantage due to their proximity to the maritime gateway, which positions them to significantly increase export volumes.

The minister listened to the demands presented by the industrial community, followed by an extensive discussion regarding the challenges raised during the session, according to Al Mamlaka TV statement.
