Gov't launches major Sanad app upgrade to improve service efficiency

The Jordan Times

AMMAN — Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Sami Smeirat on Sunday announced the rollout of a major update to the Sanad application, aimed at enhancing the efficiency, accessibility and integration of digital government services.

Speaking at a press conference, Smeirat said the update follows directives from HRH Crown Prince Hussein, issued during his ongoing follow-up of the National Council for Future Technology, which stresses the need for continuous development and modernisation of the Sanad platform, according to a ministry statement.

He said the new version features faster login, smoother navigation and a redesigned, more intuitive interface that simplifies access to government services and delivers a more seamless user experience.

A key upgrade is the automatic activation of digital identity through the app, eliminating the previous requirement to visit Sanad service stations. The process is completed through simple, secure and reliable steps, marking a qualitative shift in enabling citizens to activate their digital identity remotely, the statement read.

The minister said the ministry will publish clear guidance on the new activation mechanism across its digital platforms and media channels to ensure wide public awareness.

The update also adopts an integrated service model, allowing users to complete government transactions entirely within the app, from submitting applications to making electronic payments, removing the need to generate reference payment numbers or use external payment channels, reducing time and effort and improving overall service delivery.

To enhance electronic payment efficiency, Sanad now supports direct payments via Apple Pay, Google Pay, credit cards and other direct payment options, in line with the latest digital payment systems. Smeirat said 2,091 electronic payment transactions were completed through the app within five days of the update, reflecting growing public reliance on digital payment solutions.

The updated app also displays official digital documents, including national identity cards, driving licences and vehicle licences, in formats approved and consistent with traditional documents, strengthening trust in their use as official digital records.

Smeirat said Sanad attracts around 1.3 million monthly users, with more than two million digital identities activated, while nearly six million digital interactions are conducted each month through the platform, covering enquiries and a wide range of government services.

He added that the update represents one of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship’s flagship national initiatives, supporting the digital economy and fostering an integrated environment for innovation and technology.

The minister urged users to update the application and encouraged citizens who have not yet joined the platform to download Sanad, register and activate their digital identity to benefit from the full range of digital government services.
