Korea donates $1m to World Food Programme in the Kingdom

The Jordan Times

AMMAN — The Korean government on Tuesday donated $1 million to the World Food Programme (WFP) to help meet the nutritional needs of the most vulnerable refugees in Jordan.

The announcement came during a meeting between Korean Ambassador Lee Jae-wan and WFP Resident Representative and Country Director in Jordan Alberto Correa Mendes, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The ambassador said that the Korean government will continue supporting WFP's activities to support refugees in Jordan, noting that its contribution comes as part of a plan to help the Kingdom respond to the Syrian crisis following the pandemic.

During the meeting, Mendes expressed gratitude for the long-term support of Korea “at a time when families have increasingly become unable to meet their own needs, and more dependent on food aid provided by the programme".

In light of the increasing needs following the pandemic, the Korean government's financial assistance will enhance the capacity of the WFP to meet the food needs of refugees in Jordan using innovative ways to provide monthly aid, he added
