The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) announced a “medium-level” state of emergency starting Friday morning in response to the anticipated weather changes and instability.
In a statement issued Thursday, GAM spokesperson Nasser Rahamneh confirmed the readiness of field teams to handle any incidents, urging residents to report concerns to the main emergency operations center in Tla' Al-Ali by calling the numbers 102 or 117180.
The municipality advised the public to avoid riverbeds and low-lying areas, refrain from connecting rooftop drains to sewage systems to prevent overflow, and avoid littering, which could block rainwater drainage lines.
Additionally, residents are encouraged to inspect submersible pumps in basements and shops below street level. Merchants are advised to take precautions when storing goods in warehouses.
Contractors and construction site operators were also urged to secure building materials to prevent them from washing away or obstructing drainage systems.
GAM emphasized its commitment to ensuring public safety and mitigating the impact of the expected weather conditions.
