Cold weather forecast to persist in most regions of Kingdom — JMD

AMMAN — Cold weather is expected to persist in most regions on Sunday, while conditions will remain relatively mild in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and Aqaba, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) forecast on Saturday.
 
Low clouds will continue to appear, with moderate easterly to north-easterly winds, the JMD expected as reported by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
 
A slight drop in temperatures is forecast for Monday, with cold conditions prevailing nationwide.
 
Clouds will form at various altitudes, and from the afternoon hours cloud cover is expected to increase, bringing partly cloudy to occasionally overcast conditions. Intermittent rain is forecast to fall across most areas of the Kingdom during the evening and night, accompanied by moderate westerly winds that may become occasionally active.
 
Another slight decrease in temperatures is expected on Tuesday, with cold and partly to mostly cloudy conditions dominating.
 
Rain showers are likely at times in western parts of the Kingdom, while north-westerly winds will be moderate and occasionally brisk.
 
Temperatures on Saturday are expected to range between 14°C and 8°C in eastern Amman and 12°C and 6°C in western Amman.
 
In the northern highlands, temperatures will range from 13°C to 5°C, dropping to between 8°C and 4°C in the Sharah highlands.
 
The Badia regions are forecast to record 16°C to 7°C, while the plains will see temperatures between 15°C and 8°C.
 
Milder conditions are expected in lower-lying areas, with temperatures ranging from 21°C to 13°C in the northern Jordan Valley, 23°C to 15°C in the southern Jordan Valley, 22°C to 13°C at the Dead Sea and 25°C to 13°C in Aqaba.
 
On Sunday, temperatures in Amman are forecast to range between 13°C and 8°C, while Aqaba will record between 26°C and 14°C.
 
Meanwhile, the Kingdom’s peak electricity load reached 3,420 megawatts on Friday, according to data from the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO).
 
NEPCO Director-General Sufian Batayneh said that the power system is “fully prepared” for the current winter season, stressing that measures have been taken to enhance grid reliability and reduce the likelihood of power outages, Al Mamlaka TV reported.
