In a televised address, Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa reaffirmed the unity, resilience, and steadfastness of the Syrian people amid the latest unrest in Sweida, stressing that the nation remains ready to confront external threats and internal strife.
“The Syrian people are always ready to fight for their dignity,” President Al-Sharaa declared, as he addressed growing concerns over renewed violence in southern Syria and the involvement of foreign actors.
He warned that the Israeli occupation continues to exploit every possible tactic to destabilize Syria, saying, “Israel uses all means to target our stability and sow discord.” He further emphasized, “We are capable of overcoming all Israeli attempts to divide us.”
President Al-Sharaa rejected any suggestion of partition, affirming that “Syrians have consistently opposed all forms of division throughout history.”
Focusing on the situation in Sweida, the president stated: “Our Druze community is an essential part of the nation’s fabric, and protecting them is a top priority for us.” He added that the government has taken concrete steps to restore order, announcing, “We decided to assign local factions and Druze religious leaders to help restore security in Sweida.”
Reflecting on broader regional tensions, Al-Sharaa revealed that the government had faced a difficult decision in recent weeks: “We were faced with the choice of open war with Israel or leaving room for an agreement. We chose to protect the homeland.”
He denounced repeated 'Israeli' interference, stating, “Israel never ceases to plant conflict and division within our borders.” In response, he reiterated Syria’s sovereignty: “Syria is not a testing ground for foreign conspiracies, nor a place to fulfill others’ ambitions.”
President Al-Sharaa concluded by highlighting the success of recent security measures: “The Syrian state intervened to halt what was happening in Sweida, and has succeeded in restoring order.”
