23 Injured in Russian Plane's Emergency Landing

Asharq Al-Awsat

Twenty-three people were injured early Thursday after a Russian passenger-plane carrying more than 230 people conducted an emergency landing after a collision with birds, Russian news agency Interfax reported.

Most of the injured, among which were several children, suffered cuts and bruises, except for one who was seriously injured, the report noted.

The Ural Airlines' flight hit a swarm of gulls shortly after it took off from the Zhukovsky International Airport, south-east of Moscow, which forced the crew to return and conduct an urgent landing.

Pictures and footages showed the plane, an Airbus 321, after it landed in a cornfield near the airport.

The passengers were evacuated and left the cornfield on their feet.
