Egypt stressed that it will continue to pursue efforts to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in line with international resolutions.

President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi said Cairo’s stance towards the Palestinian cause is unwavering, adding that it was continuing its intense efforts in close cooperation with Palestinians and international partners to come up with a clear vision to push forward the peace process.

Sisi had held telephone talks on Thursday with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

According to Egyptian presidential spokesperson Bassam Rady, the two officials discussed the latest Palestinian developments.

Abbas expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s “relentless” efforts to support the Palestinian cause and reach a just and comprehensive solution.

Earlier this week, Cairo hosted reconciliation dialogue meetings that saw the participation of some 16 Palestinian factions and independent figures. It also hosted an emergency Arab foreign ministers meeting.

The factions pledged "to abide by the timetable" for balloting and "respect and accept" the results.

Parliamentary elections are set for May and presidential elections are set for July.

For their part, Arab FMs called on the international community to exert more efforts to revive the peace process that would establish a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders and with east Jerusalem as its capital.
