AMMAN — Minister of Justice Bassam Talhouni on Monday stressed that boosting judicial independence remains a top priority for the government, driven by the belief that justice is the cornerstone of the rule of law and institutions, and a key component of comprehensive national security.

Speaking during a lecture titled “The Jordanian Judicial System and its Role in Consolidating National Security” at the Royal Jordanian National Defence College, Talhouni said that the government, under Royal directives, seeks to develop the justice system, modernise legislation, and advance the digital transformation of judicial services, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

During the lecture, attended by the college commander, faculty members and participants of the 23rd National Defence Course, he said that these efforts aim to ensure swift and efficient justice, reinforce transparency and accountability, and align with administrative and institutional reform goals.

The minister noted that the concept of comprehensive national security extends beyond military and security dimensions to include legal and judicial security, which serves as a fundamental pillar in protecting rights and freedoms and in enhancing public trust in state institutions.

He stressed that promoting comprehensive national security requires coordination and integration among all state institutions to consolidate the rule of law, enhance institutional governance, and achieve sustainable development.

The minister also underlined that an independent and impartial judiciary is a true safeguard for protecting rights, upholding justice and reinforcing the rule of law, thereby contributing to political, social and economic stability.

During the lecture, Talhouni highlighted the judiciary’s vital role in combating corruption, upholding national values and interests, maintaining security, and fighting crime.

He stressed that the independence of the judiciary is essential to establishing justice and equality, noting that efficient and transparent justice is key to fostering citizens’ confidence in state institutions and ensuring national stability
