AMMAN — The Ministry of Social Development and its Qatari counterpart on Wednesday signed two memoranda of understanding to enhance cooperation between the two countries in social development and family affairs, charitable and humanitarian work.

The agreements were signed on the sidelines of the Second World Summit for Social Development held in Doha by Minister of Social Development Wafaa Bani Mustafa and Qatar's Minister of Social Development and Family and Chairperson of the Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi.

Bani Mustafa underscored that the signing of the MoUs reflects the “deep” relations between Jordan and Qatar and embodies a shared desire to unite efforts in serving both societies and achieving sustainable development, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

She noted that the MoUs aim to establish a strategic and comprehensive framework for collaboration in social development and family affairs, focusing on the empowerment of families and the most vulnerable groups, and the protection of the rights of children, women, the elderly, and people with disabilities.

The agreements also cover areas of charitable and humanitarian work, which seeks to maximise the positive impact of charitable activities, regulate them, and build the capacity of relevant institutions to serve humanitarian values.

Bani Mustafa said that the cooperation will include transferring the best practices and successful experiences in development policies and programmes, exchanging expertise in building databases and electronic systems, in addition to organising joint training programmes and workshops to raise the efficiency of personnel working in the development and charitable sectors.

She stressed that both sides will form joint committees and prepare detailed executive action plans to ensure the translation of the MoUs into practical programmes.

The minister pointed out that the signing of the MoUs represents the beginning of a strategic partnership and a new step towards Arab integration in the fields of social and humanitarian development.
