Amman -- Afghanistan's Ambassador to Jordan, Tariq Shah Bahrami, said Jordan plays a vital role in the stability of the Middle East, citing the wise policy of His Majesty King Abdullah II.

Addressing reporters on the occasion of Afghanistan's national day, Bahrami stated that the Jordanian-Afghan relations are exemplary, pointing to efforts to develop ties in various fields.

The two sides are working on forming a joint friendship association to develop the cultural and trade cooperation, he added.

He pointed to Afghan products in the Jordanian market including handmade carpets, marble, dried fruits and saffron, calling on investors from both countries to utilize opportunities available.

He said Jordan and Afghanistan are similar in terms of their strategic location, lauding King Abdullah's role in defending Islam and clarifying its true moderate image. He affirmed that his country supports this role and the efforts exerted in this regard.

He highlighted the key role played by the Jordanian military field hospital in Afghanistan, during 2006 - 2013, in providing medical care to both civilians and military personnel, hailing the Kingdom's support for his country in its fight against terrorism.

On the latest developments in Afghanistan, Bahrami said his country spent 40 years at war, and 19 years at war with the Taliban, stating that his people and government are keen on ending this war with support from the international community, namely the United States and European Union.

"We began indirect negotiations with the Taliban and we are optimistic about their result," he added.

On Afghanistan's economy, he underscored the Afghan President's vision to improve the situation through connecting central Asia to its south, noting that this would reflect positively on countries in the region.
