The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said that exploration activities for oil and gas are ongoing in several regions of Jordan, including the Reesha gas field. However, it is not possible to discuss export capabilities at this time.
The statement comes after news circulated earlier that Jordan had “commercially viable quantities of natural gas in the Reesha gas field, estimated at approximately 9.4 trillion cubic feet” – according to the Director of Natural Resources at the Ministry of Energy, Bahjat Al-Adwan.
Ministry spokesperson Linda Al-Nimait said that the quantities of gas produced from the Reesha field may only be sufficient to meet part of the local energy needs, contributing to the overall energy mix.
However, export capabilities cannot be discussed at present, as the development of gas fields requires more time and years of work.
She also noted that the discovered gas quantities in the Reesha field support the local industrial sector, as the ministry has started supplying it with gas.
She pointed out the positive impact of using natural gas on the sector, such as reducing operational costs, improving competitiveness in regional and global markets, and expanding job opportunities.
Al-Nimait emphasized the need to approach expectations in this sensitive economic matter with rationality and to ensure a comprehensive, strategic view of the sector.
