AMMAN — Deputising for His Majesty King Abdullah, Prime Minister Jafar Hassan on Tuesday participated in the Second World Summit for Social Development, which convened in Doha, Qatar.

The summit, inaugurated by Qatari Amir Sheikh Tamim Al Thani, gathered over 8,000 participants, including heads of state and government, representatives of UN member states, international organisations, the United Nations, and civil society institutions, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Jordan’s participation underscores its ongoing efforts to advance social development goals outlined in the national social protection strategy, as well as its contributions to global initiatives in this field.

Jordan co-hosted the Third Global Disability Summit with Germany in April, which culminated in the “Amman-Berlin Declaration” on the global inclusion of persons with disabilities.

The summit concluded with the adoption of the “Doha Declaration,” reaffirming global commitment to achieving social development and the 2030 sustainable development agenda.

The declaration emphasised a political, economic, and ethical vision rooted in human dignity, human rights, equality, and peace.

Held thirty years after the first World Summit for Social Development in Copenhagen, the Doha meeting aimed to strengthen international cooperation among governments and global institutions to build more inclusive and sustainable societies.

The Jordanian delegation to the summit included Minister of Social Development Wafa Bani Mustafa and Jordan’s Ambassador to Qatar Zaid Louzi.
