Security agencies referred 98 individuals to the public prosecution on Monday after they were detained Sunday evening after the Public Security Directorate (PSD) personnel did not allow groups of protesters to reach the “Israeli” embassy situated in Al-Rabieh, Amman.

Malik al-Tahrawi, a member of the Public Liberties Committee at the Jordanian Bar Association, stated that the prosecutor decided to detain 4 individuals (among the 98 detainees) on charges of resisting and contempt of PSD personnel.

Al-Tahrawi added that the prosecutor decided not to release 94 of the detainees, charging them with unauthorized assembly.

The vicinity of the “Israeli” embassy witnessed rioting yesterday evening as the PSD prevented groups of protesters from reaching the embassy building, prompting security personnel to use tear gas to disperse the protesters and detain a number of them.
