AMMAN — Prime Minister Omar Razzaz on Monday highlighted the government’s pride in the important role of the Royal Scientific Society (RSS) as a “national monument” that focuses on conducting applied scientific research and providing scientific consultation and technical services to support the development of the country.

 

During a visit to the society’s headquarters, during which he met with HRH Princess Sumaya, president of the RSS, Razzaz said that nations wishing to keep up with progress and modernity must transform theoretical studies into applied science, pointing to the RSS’ abidance by that principle, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

 

The RSS will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of its foundation next year. 

 

The premier shed light on the importance of institutionalising cooperation between stakeholder ministries and the RSS to achieve integration as well as identify challenges and opportunities in various sectors. 

 

Razzaz reiterated the government’s interest in benefitting from the society’s reports and studies across various vital fields, noting that these studies are highly credible and enhance the decision-making and evaluation process.

 

The prime minister commended the RSS’ specialised technical courses in a number of fields, especially the medical equipment maintenance course held last week in cooperation with the health ministry, citing its role in reducing the waste of facilities. 

 

For her part, Princess Sumaya received the premier and the accompanying ministerial team, underlining the significance of such meetings in bringing together national institutions seeking to enhance cooperation, in fulfillment of His Majesty King Abdullah’s vision. 

 

In her welcome speech, the princess briefed attendees on the history of the RSS and the Royal Decree that mandated its establishment, stressing the society’s commitment to the decree’s contents, which stipulate the research, experimentation and invention carried out by the RSS.

 

“The RSS is determined to move forward with its approach of service to the nation and its citizens and will spare no efforts on its journey to innovation and creativity,” Princess Sumaya said, noting that the RSS has “finally” established and upgraded a number of advanced test labs.

 

The premier also met with employees of the Enhanced Productivity Centres Project, IRADA, run by the RSS since 2006.

 

Razzaz noted that the key to the success stories witnessed by IRADA-funded projects lies in more than just providing funding, pointing to economic feasibility studies and guiding the youth to revenue-generating projects.
