The Grand Criminal Court has sentenced a man to 15 years of hard labor for assaulting an 11-year-old boy, beating him and stealing JD 20 as the boy was on his way to a local store in one of the governorates.
The court convicted the defendant of attempted premeditated murder in preparation for committing a misdemeanor, in accordance with Articles 327/1 and 70 of the Jordanian Penal Code.
According to case details, the young victim was headed to the store to buy supplies when he encountered the defendant, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol during the month of Ramadan.
The defendant called out to the boy, who ignored him, prompting the man to pursue him to steal the cash the boy was carrying.
As outlined in the court’s ruling, the defendant managed to snatch JD 20 from the boy before brutally assaulting him, repeatedly striking his head and other parts of his body.
The ruling noted that the defendant attacked the boy with extreme violence, using his hands, feet, and a heavy shoe to deliver a forceful blow to the boy’s head, which caused him to fall onto his back.
