Egypt fires back at “Israel” over aid impeding accusations

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has condemned the recent comments by the Israeli Occupation Foreign Minister Israel Katz, in which he said that Egypt holds the key for the Rafah Border Crossing and must be persuaded to reopen it.

"Israel should bear responsibility, and allow humanitarian aid to enter the Strip through the crossings that are under its control. The [Israeli] operation at the Rafah crossing and its takeover are the main reason for its closure,” Shoukry said.

He continued, “Israel is trying to blame Egypt for the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, but this is a result of the Israeli attacks on the Palestinians.”

Katz made his comments after holding talks with the British and German Foreign Ministers.

“The world is placing the responsibility of Israel for the humanitarian issue, but the key to preventing a humanitarian crisis is now in the hands of our Egyptian friends,” he said.

“Hamas will not control the Rafah Crossing. This is a security need we won’t compromise on.”

Earlier today, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said that since May 9, when “Israel” invaded the southern border city of Rafah and closed the border crossing, humanitarian aid has been unable to reach the Gaza Strip.

"Our brothers in the Gaza Strip have not received any aid since May 9, and this is an indication of the continued perpetuation of the humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip," ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari told reporters in a press conference in Doha.
