“Shameful stain on international order,” says Safadi on UN convoy attack in Gaza

A United Nations convoy heading to Gaza City came under heavy shooting from “Israeli” forces on Sunday, with one vehicle receiving at least five bullets.

UN Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini said that the UN personnel suffered no casualties, but had to duck and take cover despite traveling in clearly marked UN armored cars and vests.

The vehicle came under fire while waiting just ahead of an “Israeli” checkpoint south of Wadi Gaza, Lazzarini added on his X account.

“This is a war crime. UNRWA & all other humanitarian agencies & workers must be protected from Israeli occupation forces & war crimes,” Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said in response.

“Gaza has not only become a graveyard for children. It has become a graveyard for Int’l law, a shameful stain on the whole International order,” Safadi added.

After the attack, UN personnel left the severely damaged car, and re-assembled and reached Gaza City.

“Like all other similar UN movements, this movement was coordinated and approved by the Israeli Authorities,” Lazzarini said, adding that those responsible must be held accountable.
