King Abdullah II warned of the consequences of dangerous escalation in the region during his meeting with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on Friday.

During the meeting, held at the UN headquarters in New York, the King emphasized the need for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza as the first step to halt the escalation. He stressed that Israeli Occupation's attacks in the West Bank must also stop, including settler violence against Palestinians and violations of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

The King reiterated his call for an enhanced international response to the humanitarian disaster in Gaza and underlined the importance of protecting aid workers to allow them to carry out their roles effectively.

King Abdullah praised Guterres' stance in supporting an end to the war in Gaza and his efforts to find a political solution that would lead to a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.

Additionally, the King urged the international community to continue supporting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to enable it to fulfill its humanitarian mandate.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi, Director of the King's Office Eng. Alaa Batayneh, and Jordan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Mahmoud Hmoud.
