AMMAN — Her Majesty Queen Rania on Wednesday attended the United Nations Foundation and the United Nations Association of the USA (UNF/UNA-USA) Global Leadership Awards Dinner in New York.
The event is held annually to highlight the vital role the UN plays in helping the global community advance peace, prosperity and justice, and to honour individuals and corporations for their global leadership in advancing UN causes, according to a statement released by the Queen’s office.
The event, which gathered about 400 policy makers, diplomats, UN supporters and business leaders, recognised outstanding global leaders for their efforts in several fields including education, human rights, health and the environment.
Queen Rania, who is a board member of the UNF, presented Malala Yousafzai, the young Pakistani girl who was shot by Taliban on her way to school, with one of the awards in recognition of her efforts in advocating children’s rights to education, especially girls.
Over the past two days, Her Majesty also participated in several board meetings that discussed outcomes of programmes carried out by the UNF in different countries.
The meetings also discussed the foundation’s work plan for the upcoming year, the statement said.
