Heavy downpours lash northern regions, Ajloun tops rainfall levels — JMD

AMMAN — The northern region saw the heaviest rainfall over the past 24 hours, with the Ajloun monitoring station registering 41.3 millimetres (mm), the highest amount recorded nationwide, followed by Irbid with 18mm, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) announced on Saturday.

Acting Director of the JMD Abdulmunem Qarala said that the Wadi Rayyan station measured 13.1mm, while in the southern region, the Karak station recorded 11.7mm, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

He added that the latest radar images show intense rainfall over northern parts of the Kingdom, urging the public to exercise caution and stay away from valleys and flood-prone areas.

The JMD had earlier warned of poor horizontal visibility, at times dropping to zero due to fog over highlands and parts of the plains.

The department also cautioned against flash floods in valleys, low-lying areas and near the Dead Sea, as well as reduced visibility from dust in desert regions and slippery roads during rainfall.
