A new report from the Knesset Research and Information Center has revealed a sharp rise in suicide attempts among 'Israeli' soldiers since the beginning of the war on Gaza.

According to official data cited by 'Israel’s' public broadcaster KAN, 279 'Israeli' soldiers attempted suicide between January 2024 and July 2025.

The report described the figures as “worrying,” noting that 12 percent of the attempts were classified as severe, while 88 percent were considered moderate. Of those attempts, 36 resulted in death.

The data further shows that 124 'Israeli' soldiers have died by suicide since 2017, with the majority, 68 percent, being conscripts, 21 percent reservists, and 11 percent career soldiers. Researchers found a notable increase in suicide cases among reservists after 2023, correlating with the mass call-ups following the Gaza escalation.

Knesset member Ofer Cassif, a left-wing lawmaker who pushed for the study, condemned the government’s handling of the crisis, saying, “The suicide epidemic, which is expected to increase with the end of the war, requires establishing real support systems for soldiers, working to end wars, and achieving real peace.”

He added, “The government that sends its soldiers to war and leaves them to face the consequences alone is working against them.”

The statistics emerge as 'Israel' continues to grapple with the human cost of its war on Gaza, where over 68,500 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed, and more than 170,000 injured since October 2023.
