In a significant escalation on the ground, aircraft belonging to the ‘Israeli’ army carried out a targeted assassination on Saturday evening, striking a civilian vehicle west of Gaza City.
The attack resulted in at least seven fatalities, including a senior Hamas commander and his children, in addition to several injuries among passersby.
A drone-fired missile at Abbas Junction
Local sources and eyewitnesses reported that an ‘Israeli’ drone fired a precision-guided missile toward a vehicle traveling near Abbas Junction west of Gaza City. The direct strike completely destroyed the vehicle and ignited a fire, which made it difficult for ambulance and civil defense crews to conduct an initial identification of the victims.
Hebrew media announces the target's identity
In the first official comment from the 'Israeli' side, Channel 12 reported that the army carried out an assassination that targeted a senior commander in the military wing of Hamas in the middle of the city.
Later, Channel 15, citing an 'Israeli' security source, revealed the identity of the targeted individual, confirming that the attack targeted Alaa al Hadeedi, a commander in Al Qassam Brigades.
Children killed alongside their father
The operation did not only target a military figure but also claimed the lives of civilians who were accompanying him. Sources confirmed that the children of al Hadeedi were with him inside the vehicle at the moment of the strike, leading to their deaths as well.
This assassination adds a new chapter to the ongoing escalation and the policy of targeted killings carried out by the 'Israeli' army against leaders and members of the resistance in the Gaza Strip, despite the ceasefire.
