AMMAN — Minister of Public Works and Housing Maher Abu Samen on Tuesday inspected ongoing projects designed to address flood damage and protect water infrastructure in the Dead Sea region and Karak governorate.
According to a ministry statement, Abu Samen began his tour by reviewing key bridges in the Dead Sea area, including protection works at the Zarqa Ma’in Bridge.
The works involve constructing concrete barriers and shields at the bridge’s entrances and exits to prevent erosion caused by water flows. He also followed up on reinforcement efforts at Mujib Bridge and the Ghor Al Mazra’a culvert.
At Wadi Shaqiq Bridge, the minister inspected measures to redirect the wadi’s watercourse toward designated inlets, along with intensive protections, including gabion and concrete works, aimed at controlling lateral erosion.
In the Numayrah area along the Wadi Araba road, Abu Samen reviewed protection measures for the outlet of an existing culvert and a project to construct a new box culvert with 10 openings, each measuring 3 by 3 metres. The project also includes the reconstruction of 180 metres of road to ensure smooth and safe traffic flow during the rainy season.
During his visit to the Surfa–Aghwar road project, which spans 18 kilometres, the minister stressed the need to complete the final phase, noting that the overall project is now 85 per cent complete. He said the JD11 million road, implemented in three phases, is a vital artery linking northern Karak with the Jordan Valley and is aimed primarily at boosting commercial and agricultural activity in the area.
