TRIPOLI — On Thursday, the Libyan Ambulance and Emergency Services made a distressing announcement, revealing that more than 9,000 individuals remain unaccounted for.

 

Earlier today, the head of the Libyan Search and Rescue Agency stated, "Our teams are currently collecting DNA samples from unidentified bodies,” Amad reported.

 

He further added, "Our teams are actively deploying to the cities of Derna and Susah."

 

Earlier today, the Libyan Ambulance Service had reported a staggering count of over 5,500 deceased, 10,000 missing persons, and 7,000 injured, with the final tally yet to be determined.

 

Abdelmunim Al-Ghaithi, the mayor of Derna, had earlier expressed concern that the death toll in the hurricane-devastated Libyan city could potentially rise to 20,000.
