Jordan condemns Israeli settlement plan, Netanyahu’s ‘racist’ statements

The Jordan Times

AMMAN — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s approval of the settlement expansion plan in the E1 area, as well as his “extremist and racist”remarks rejecting the establishment of a Palestinian state.

In a statement on Thursday, the ministry described the Israeli move as a “blatant violation of international law that undermines the two-state solution.”

It also characterized the Israeli actions as a direct assault on the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people to establish an independent, sovereign state along the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The ministry spokesperson Sufyan Majali reaffirmed the Kingdom’s “unequivocal rejection and condemnation of the Israeli settlement plan and all unilateral, illegal actions carried out by Israel in the occupied West Bank.”

He also stressed that such actions are in clear violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2334, which condemns all Israeli measures aimed at altering the demographic composition, character, and status of the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem.

Majali also cited the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, which affirmed the illegality of the Israeli occupation and the annexation of occupied Palestinian land.

“There is no sovereignty for Israel over the occupied Palestinian territories,” Majali said, warning against the continued expansionist policies of the current Israeli government and its “provocative [and] racist rhetoric.”

The spokesperson reiterated Jordan’s call on the international community to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities by pressuring Israel to cease its aggression on Gaza and its escalating actions in the West Bank.

He urged international actors to provide necessary protection for the Palestinian people and to support their legitimate right to establish an independent state on their national soil, “the only viable path to achieving a just and comprehensive peace in the region.”
