UN Fourth Committee adopts several resolutions with Jordan’s support

AMMAN — The UN General Assembly’s Fourth Committee on Special Political and Decolonisation on late Wednesday adopted several resolutions under Agenda Item 50, related to Israeli practices and settlement activities affecting the human rights of the Palestinian people and other Arabs of the occupied territories”.
 
The first resolution, submitted by Jordan along with a group of member states, was endorsed by 87 countries, opposed by 17, while 62 abstained, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
 
Under the same agenda item, the committee adopted a resolution on “Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, including East Jerusalem, and the occupied Syrian Golan”, which received the support of 146 states, including Jordan, with 11 voting against and 14 abstaining.
 
The committee also approved a resolution on the “Occupied Syrian Golan”, backed by 146 countries, including Jordan, with 6 opposing and 18 abstaining.
 
Earlier, the committee adopted several resolutions under agenda item 49, titled “United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA)”, renewing the agency’s mandate until June 30, 2029, “without prejudice to the provisions of Article 11 of General Assembly Resolution 194.”
 
Resolution 194, adopted in 1948, affirms in Article 11 the right of refugees to return to their homes. In this context, the newly adopted resolution requests the UN Conciliation Commission for Palestine to continue its efforts to implement this article and to submit a report on its progress by September 2026.
 
In addition, the Fourth Committee adopted a resolution on “UNRWA operations”, supported by 144 states, including Jordan, with 11 opposing and 16 abstaining.
 
It also endorsed a resolution on “Palestine refugees’ properties and revenues”, backed by 154 countries, including Jordan, opposed by 10, with 8 abstentions.
